“THERE ARE ONLY EVENTS AND RELATIONSHIPS” Carlo Rovelli
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust Louisa Martindale Building. Brighton. Kate was commissioned as Lead Artist for the Welcome Space 2011-2022. ’Wrapped’ is a work in ceramic tiles wrapped around the concrete columns of the entrance area, injecting robust colour and rhythm to the cavernous space. “Brighton is full of colour it is in the architecture and in the attitude of the place. I want this work to feel like Brighton and to have a positive emotional influence on all those who work there and all those who need to be there.”

"I have always enjoyed Kate's work and I worked with her on a project for one of my collections which was very successful. I have followed her career and admire especially her designs for rugs which always have a strong impact"
PAUL SMITH
"Her acute vision, uniting colour, form, texture and proportion, will continue to move and engage our senses"

Painting on cashmere cloth for a new Exhibition at The Scottish Gallery Edinburgh opening on 7th Jan 2023!
A table setting of 8 ceramic plates, wall mounted, with steel brackets . Each bracket responds to each plate. The work imagines a gathering of individuals - with commonalities and differences. The plates would present and hold the food precariously. There is risk involved in keeping the food on the plate and care and attention and even skill needed. Our physical engagement with materials and objects especially around the table with food are full of cultural agency, traditions, familial habits, harmonies and conflicts. This work looks at the intricacies of the simple act of daily gathering to eat, and in its presentation references the tradition of the aspirational and commanding displays of fine china in homes.

"Kate, Edmund, Chien-Wei, Matthew, and Marthe command their medium and subvert its function. A repetition of pots becomes a wall, or a movement of light; a woven carpet is a boundary, and a piece of lead looks as soft as cloth; silver tools hover between the ceremonial and the utilitarian. The processes of industrial design are married through material with craft and become sculpture" Sarah Griffin 2010
